New Musical Commission

We're thrilled to be offering a unique development & showcase opportunity for New UK Musical Based work to be featured in uprising!

MTExperiments are thrilled to announce we are opening an array of opportunities for British Musical Composers & Artists to have their work funded, showcased and supported at uprising: a musical theatre revolution.

About uprising

uprising: a musical theatre revolution is a one of a kind evening of theatre where new British Musicals will be showcased prior to our feature presentation: a dynamic new staging of RENT on 8th-10th July 2020 at Derby Theatre.

Each evening commences with a series of new musicals showcased in a Thirty Minute preview prior to our community staging of RENT. Hosted on the Main Stage at Derby Theatre, these semi-staged performances allowing you to see a new work at its genesis & provides a unique opportunity for UK Musical Theatre artists.

Commission Criteria

Our first opportunity is a unique development process for UK based Musical Theatre creatives. We are offering three projects the opportunity to develop & showcase their work in a thirty minute performance slot at Derby Theatre. Showcased before our reframed community staging of RENT, composers will be able to premiere a glimpse of their work. It could be a concert style showcase of various compositions or concept, a showcase of your show in development or any ideas that put your work in the spotlight.

You will be supported by MTExperiments’ team to develop the preview performance with rehearsal time, recourses and talent. A timeline of events and further information can be found in our FAQ. Applicants will receive a fee, accommodation & travel expenses covered as needed. The production will also be filmed and photographed for online distribution & showcasing your work.

How to Apply

Please complete the initial application form found here: https://forms.gle/yaDV6ZgCmD7qJAUA6

  • A 500 Word Overview of the Project: This could be a synopsis of the project with a brief overview of it’s development process to date

  • Initial Thoughts of how you would utilise the Preview Slot: These are not commited ideas, more to give us an overview of how you envision using the slot. We will discuss these ideas and help you develop them within the interview stage.

  • You can then upload up to five files in relation to the project. We ask specifically for Three Demos from the project. Other files could include a sample of script or a full synopsis of the story.

In the run up to the deadline, MTExperiments will be hosting a variety of online events to discuss what we’re looking for & answer any questions. These will happen on Instagram (@mt_experiments) and Facebook (@MTExperiments). Feel free to contact us if you have any questions too.

Our Curation Panel will then read and listen to your proposals & will contact you by 19th January to let you know the outcome. We will meet with works we are interested in and will offer the slots by the end of February. Meetings will take place in either Derby or London, depending on where is best for the composer.
